Re: Star Trek: Retribution
@evil_genius: it was in Chellik's office in Specter as well :) Last time it was implied to be an afterthought, a gold-plated proof-of-concept model that no one ever made anything of. This time, it's mostly there as a subtle jab at Star Trek XI (notice Garr's line there is "I have to know my enemy").
I guess you could say it's there for the same reason Riker had a pewter model of the 1701-A in his TNG quarters, with warp engines that were turned the wrong way: because we can. :) |
Re: Star Trek: Retribution
Yeah, I figured that "concept that was never made" was going to be the explanation, I just thought I'd ask. As for the Constitution-class with the nacelles turned 90 degrees, you can easily just say that's a class variant. But, as many people have whined about since it was revealed, there's nothing like the JJverse Enterprise anywhere in Starfleet in the "prime" universe. (AKA, the real Trek universe)

Re: Star Trek: Retribution
@evil_genius: remember that Retribution so far has taken place in an "alternate" timeline (the same as the Prime one but with some subtle differences). At the end of the movie the Prime timeline will be restored. At that point, we'll get another glimpse in Prentice's quarters, at which point this gold Abrams NCC-1701 will change to the TOS-style NCC-1701.

Re: Star Trek: Retribution
The question now is, where to from here? Obviously Reyf is going to tell all very soon, the question is how to get there from here.

Re: Star Trek: Retribution
I have missed the last updates . I have a look asap.

Re: Star Trek: Retribution
@Taranis: I think you'll really like the latest clip, it went through quite a bit of preproductive development (not to mention corny ideas over at SFM). Braiyon Garr is particularly ominous here, and as has been said, there's what I think is a nice little plot twist at the end. :)

Re: Star Trek: Retribution
Something has been bugging me that might be a revelation of sorts. Anybody who doesn't want to read what might or might not be a startling revelation, don't read this:

I'm kind of stuck on the next scene. I've got it written, but no matter how many rewrites I go through, I still can't get it to such a point that I'm happy with it. Have a look at the writeup, and see what you think. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Here's a revised version that feels like it gets closer to what it should be. Still a little long, I think, but maybe it works. Give it a onceover and see what you think!

Re: Star Trek: Retribution
Finally got the chance to view it .. some nice twists and turns ....

Re: Star Trek: Retribution
I'll have to find an hour and a half to watch it later and see how it's going so far. I was just going to be lazy and watch the newest scene, but the vid is gone (I guess I waited too long. ;)) Oh well, it will be good to see the progress to date all together anyway. :) I should be able to find some time for that tonight.

Re: Star Trek: Retribution
@evil_genius: gotta be quick with me :) A lot of times what happens is I'll post an individual scene, but then make a change or add a transition shot when it goes in with the rest of the movie, and when that happens usually everything comes down and a new long clip goes up. This was one of those cases :)

Re: Star Trek: Retribution
Work on Scene 32 started today--the visuals are going fine, but I seem to be stuck on the question of BGM. With that in mind, I've put together a few music tests comprising the first part of the scene (all that I have completed as of the moment). These are some of the most fitting pieces of music I have in my collection, but if after seeing this anyone else has a better idea I'm listening.
The selections I've chosen to test are: Star Trek Retribution - Scene 32 Music Test: "24 Main Title" Star Trek Retribution - Scene 32 Music Test: "Blue (Da Ba Dee) Karaoke Mix" Star Trek Retribution - Scene 32 Music Test: "Blue Da Ba Dee (Radio Edit)" Star Trek Retribution - Scene 32 Music Test: "Cosmic Castaway" Star Trek Retribution - Scene 32 Music Test: "Hey Sandy" Star Trek Retribution - Scene 32 Music Test: "Turn, Turn, Turn" Star Trek Retribution - Scene 32 Music Test: "The Leveller" |
Re: Star Trek: Retribution
Alright, final decision's been made, we're going with "Blue (Da Ba Dee)." The scene is done now, see it in its entirety: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7c1omn8rMU
I'm especially proud of the shots of the Romulan fleet, those shots are by far on a grander scale than anything I've ever attempted before. So much so that I actually had to do the ships in three "rows," if you will, which are superimposed over each other to get the combined effect in that first shot: 1st row is the warbirds and the Kerchans; 2nd row is more of same, but in a different configuration; and 3rd row is what I call the "cameo" row, with everything from 2003 Cylon Base Stars to Nebulon-B frigates to Goa'uld Ha'Taks. (Even though it's barely visible, this row is my favorite!) |
Re: Star Trek: Retribution
New version of Scene 32 is up, this one is 32B with "Suicide Mission" (from Mass Effect 2) as the BGM, along with some updated visuals of the Romulan fleet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSCR1w19S8E

I'm particularly proud of how this one came out. |
Re: Star Trek: Retribution
Really nicely done. I like the way this is coming together. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out and what's in the mysterious cargo hold. :)
BTW, I love the gold plated NSEA Protector model in Ronston's cabin. |
