Blender,

I don't use it myself, Lightwave3d is the program I found easier to use but if I was starting out Blender, the right price for a hobby.

you can find video tutorials to say build the classic USS Enterprise by Eric J. Reinholt AKA ScifiEric on youtube.

Thanks for the replies I am going to try out both (Blender, Lightwave) to see what suites me the best.

best way.

I found LW easier to use, I believe the key way to use Blender is get to know shortcut keys to speed up your building time. my memory is shocking so that out for a start :D
