Black and White - page 27

Ok, a sneak peak at Art Thibert's new comic book "Black and White". This is the first page that I've coloured for it but is actually page 27 in the book overall. It took way too long to do but then I'm more used to colouring pinups and covers than sequentials, so yeah, there's probably a zillion things wrong with it as a result but you gotta start somewhere!!. :)

cheers
Sean

I like it - but I think it´s a better idea to use the same color for all backgrounds.

´Cause: the pictures with the blue backgrounds seems to show a scene by night - but the pictures with the green background - I really like them - seems to show a scene by a cloudy and rainy day.

Aside from this little things another great job by you...

Maybe the changing color of the background has to do with the story. I've seen where they've done stuff like that in comics before.

no...

the different panel colours break up the page to give the eye focus in the narrative. the initial blue screen sets the scene as night with rain etc, while the next two panels atract the eye accross the page. Then panel 5 (the big main one) is the same colour as the top right to attract the eye down and accross the page once again, followed by the 3 small blue panels to make contrast once again. The oraneg scanner panel makes you notice it so you understand that it is a focal point to the story of the page and that panel is identical to the scanner in panel 5.

its all very scientifical... :P

Well now I know why .. works for me ..

how long will you spend over a drawing before you start or are you given suggestions on a direction that they would like you to take

well I just do the colours...

and this time i had no direction as to colours, except that it was obviously at night and raining, and I knew the ipod guy was dressed in black

otherwise I just wing it

of course if its an established character like spiderman or someone then its easy and all I have to do is decide on the backgrounds etc, which can be whatever takes my fancy and mood
