The Star Trek Meshes Collection

Yes!

You may or may not know it, but the STMC is still on-line. And has been since september 1998, with some downtime here and there.

That's the good thing. What's the bad thing, you wonder?
The site design, that's the bad thing! It hasn't changed for 6 years either, and it wasn't fantastic even then!

So I'm holding a contest for those interested in site design. If you're interested, please check it out at http://www.trekmeshes.ch.

And BTW: WarriorDL, good to hear from you again :D

you're right, the site design sucks even for my standards.

and they're already low.

Phoenix_X February 21st, 2004 04:42 AM

Thanks for that very constructive reply.

ROFLOL!
No quite seriously, I don't understand why so many star trek websites try to model their displays like lcars thingies... it's so cliche by now.

Katana February 21st, 2004 02:07 PM

But is was not when the site was originally made

Chris B February 21st, 2004 02:55 PM

Long before she saw the light of the CG world :D

Phoenix_X February 24th, 2004 03:33 PM

*LOL* Thanks guys, for sticking up for me on my weekend away :).
Yep, back in '98, LCARS was hardly done, and some sites even copied my design one on one. That's how it became cliche :). I think holodeck.com is the only site I saw back then with LCARS.

I've done a little bit of interim work :). At least the font and links look *slightly* better now :). There's also a new public gallery.

Go PHP, man :D

Gives you the most freedom of updating.

Hey Warrior! :). How's things? You still on ICQ?

Most of the site right now's already PHP. I just need the creative stuff to give it some shape :).

Darrell Lawrence March 18th, 2004 11:13 AM

Are you using includes in the PHP?

Darrell

Phoenix_X March 23rd, 2004 01:04 PM

It's up!

A new design is up. Simple, yet elegant I think. What do you thing?

Not really using includes, no. Every file is very structured, but I started off too chaotic to work towards includes....

General Phoenix March 23rd, 2004 09:19 PM

Not a bad start on the re-design, Erik.

I have a few suggestions, but I'll register at your forums to discuss them. :)

Phoenix_X March 24th, 2004 12:13 AM

Thanks, that's the easiest for me :)

Chris B March 24th, 2004 05:01 AM

unfortunately it doesn't work in firefox too well :(

Phoenix_X March 24th, 2004 09:18 AM

Hmmm.... Could you send me a screenshot? I'd like to see what I can do about that.

Chris B March 24th, 2004 11:29 AM

oh, it's working now!

the first time i tried the menu was cut off, "about" was hardly on the screen anymore.
anyways, fine now - coolio :)

Phoenix_X March 24th, 2004 11:56 AM

Perfect, glad to hear it. I did little bits of tweaking on it :)

Chris B March 25th, 2004 02:24 AM

I think it was actually an issue with the resolution (1024x768) as you posted on your forum :)

Phoenix_X March 25th, 2004 10:16 AM

Probably, it looks 'all wrong' when it doesn't fit into the screen :)

Phoenix_X March 28th, 2004 12:25 PM

BTW: If anyone here wants to do a logo (see the site), then even if you've only got a minute (the best designs are done over coffee :)), try one! :)
