Serenity 2 - The tutorial

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Work has been a bear and I've been putting a lot of time into a Serenity modeling tutorial for Lightwave.

The original thread was started over at Lightwave Group and is up to 712 replies in 6 weeks.
This is the progress so far:

Sean Kennedy March 7th, 2006 02:33 PM

Cool! Hope this works for everyone. I've been running into some serious system issues at home so I haven't done much in the last week or so.

petrosh March 14th, 2006 01:16 AM

thank for the tutorial, Sean!

mirkrim April 25th, 2006 06:07 PM

My God.... that's beautiful. I have to ask though, is the primary buffer panel detachable? :D:D:D

Sean Kennedy April 26th, 2006 11:02 AM

LOL!

BTW: I have been working on the tutorial but none of it is in PDF format yet. If you want to catch up you can take a look at the Works in Progress forum at the Lightwave Group. As soon as I get the PDF's caught up I will post links to them here.

Until then here are some more tidbits:

Looks stunning Sean :) I am in awe looking at the work so far .. its taken me week to get the over all shape of my first mesh right and that would be simple stuff you you.... I hope the system issues have been resolved :)

Sean Kennedy April 26th, 2006 12:33 PM

Yeah. finally. I also just got back from an animation seminar so I'll be able to put those skills to use soon.

EDIT: just do the first four or five parts of the tutorial and you learn skills that will speed up your modeling process.

Professional? Absolutely! What impresses me the most is the texturing, very well done. The mesh is spot on, imho, but the texturing is outstanding.

Sean, how long did it take you to produce the textures for the mesh? That must have been image map hell, lots of time with photoshop?

An outstanding effort, without question.

OK....what part are we talking about? The Shuttle or the whole ship?
The shuttle took me a week. I've been working on the textures for the whole Serenity mesh for quite a wjile now. I have been working on the textures for the entire ship since June, but I've also been writting the modeling tutorial at the same time. One of the reasons why it's taking so long.....I have been working on the Serenity modeling tutorial since November 1st, 2005....

This weekend I collaborated with Lynn Lefey and produced a new variant on the Firefly class spaceship, using my old mesh as a base.
The mesh and deck plans are for use with the Serenity Role Playing Game.
The variant is based on a description from the rule book of a blockade runner version of the ship used during the Alliance/Indenpendent war.

here is a zip file containing the custom blockade runner schematics (4.11MB)
http://www.seansgallery.com/newpics/..._custom_BR.zip

here is a zip file containing the standard blockade runner schematics (5.6MB)
http://www.seansgallery.com/newpics/...firefly_BR.zip

Each image is 2000x2000 pixels

The Deckplans were produced by Lynn:
