I buy these little spiral-bound sketchbooks, maybe 4 x 6 inches, that I carry around with me at all times. You never know when you'll get a good idea for a ship. I've filled up a quite a few in the past 5 years and keep them all, since some sketches need to rest for a few years before they're ready to become a museum ship. I also have various scraps of restaurant placemats, beer coasters, and newspapers with sketches on them. After showing some of these sketches to Thomas when we got together last year, I posted them on a museum page for the morbidly curious.
