I do hope you mean the extended DeLaurentis version. While the miniseries was closer to the book as far as plot goes, that version was far and away the most visually stunning movie I've ever seen.
As far as my overall favorite movie, I'd have to say it's
Colossus: The Forbin Project. Colossus was the parent of every "mad" computer since: WOPR/Joshua, Skynet, etc. Wish I could find the book it was based on, and the two sequels. Despite the fact that I've heard bad reviews of them, I'd love to see Colossus/Guardian in its original form.
