I have the issue resolved now - it was just a matter of using the built in script to export the mesh and convert it to an OBJ file.
At this point I just need to rig the prop so that it works with my version of Daz's Michael 3.

I'm going to check out the one on this site also to see if it's skeleton rig works better with my D|S meshes than the other one.
