Adventures in Sketchup
Yes, you read it right.
I begun to play with Sketchup yesterday, 05:00 PM just to see what I can do with that pgm and, at 08:00 PM I got this.
Just a plain render and border cuts in the old Paintbrush. Kirkythea isn´t instaled yet. For an exercise just to see where I can go with sketchup, in 03 hours, it turned out very well I believe. Opinions?

Yes, it´s Google Sketchup, which you can have for free. A paid version exists too, and isn´t that expensive.
I´m playing with the pro version, instaled at my workplace.

Re: Adventures in Sketchup
did it in Sketchup!!! WOW! could you share you first steps on getting started? I've wanted to get deeper into sketchup as an alternative to trueSpace (which is crashing more frequently on my rig and is frustrating the HECK out of me) but never quite know where to start...
For those interested, Autodesk just release their own freeware 3d app to the masses and it looks GREAT so far, check out the quick tutorials and the basics... its the best looking user friendly UI i've ever seen!!! http://www.123dapp.com/

Thanks, I'll have to check that out when I'm running Windows again. I'm trying to break away from trueSpace also but I don't like Blender that well, Wings isn't much better for me and I haven't tried SketchUp yet.

Re: Adventures in Sketchup
same here, blender is too complicated and difficult to get into, same with wings, but that is where 123d looks different... Sketchup seemed a bit tricky to do advanced 3d manipulation things with but sounds like they do have plugins and methods to get around that... remember, Sketcup was basically started to do simple architectural designs to upload to Google Earth, but users are doing AMAZING renders and design with it now, goolge and check out some galleries on the net...

Excuse me for the looong waiting.
As a first step, I recommend you to start with try and error, just to familiarize yourself with the interface. An advice: Sketchup isn´t friendly when doing curved geometry. You´ll need to figure your proper workarounds when doing this. Other recomendation, is to do a search for free plugins that can make your like more simple.
There are good tuts all around too, like these:

http://www.render.ru/books/show_book.php?book_id=808
An interesting topic: http://forums.sketchucation.com/view...p?f=81&t=33642
Hope that helps.
