Hey XmESs!!! :-D

I did the "earth"/dirt using lots of procedural layers - you know - noise maps within noise maps with cellular here and there mixed with other maps etc. I believe I still have it available for download at my site (http://banner.3dfrontier.com). Material set 1: http://www.3dfrontier.com/~banner/ThomasBannerMaterialSet-101.zip

Just open the material editor and look at the various materials and you'll find one called dirt/earth or something like it. Note that depending on the scene the size of the map size might vary so that it might look wrong by being scaled to small or too big. ww.blur.com/maxscripts/ has a script called "procedural map scale" and it scales all your procedurals down so they'll fit with what you need. This one is a real helper!

I think you should go about doing it with maps and lots of bump - maybe even displacement. If you post some progress I might be able to help you further :):)
