Slow, I know!

Like the unintentional usage of the StarFleet hull insigia as the outer WFG??

I'm sure it's not MY fault. In my dorm I have to use a ISP for schools. They filter out some sites that may contain sex/violence/gambling. Interestingly, yours is categorized as sex. :D

You still looking for interiors? I think I know the answer :) I was going to wait until sean released the next bridge, but I've got a notion to start something new. At least try it. Also, do you have any thoughts as to what the corridors would look like?

Zanith
December 18th, 2002, 02:43 PM
WOW! I AM GLAD YOU ASKED! Yes, I am still looking for interiors!

The owner want corridors like Intrepids, just the colors of the Sovereign corridors. I think the corridors should be a mix of Intrepid and Sovereign.

And bridge ideas would be nice. LOL!

Glad to see your interest.

mercutiojb
December 18th, 2002, 08:26 PM
What colors are the Sovereign corridors? They're dark, arent they?

Zanith
December 18th, 2002, 09:27 PM
Tan structure, black paneling, red and grey carpeting (red center - grey siding).

Let me find a Sovereign interior shot. . . .

For those who liked the shuttle bay on the old version. here is a close up of the new and WIP version!

Here is an update. I am trying to make the ship look less pregnant.

Also - Does anyone know how to work with Illustrator in regard to the message 'Object is too large or complex' message? I cannot dare try to work on this image ALL over in another program.

Sorry, I haven't gotten that message...

Looks like the Nottingham class illustrations have died (at least I haven't seen anything lately), so, if you'd like, feel free to take that project up when you're done here. :)

BTW: Love the new shuttle bay.

Zanith
January 3rd, 2003, 11:56 AM
Hrm, I cannot seem to get the shape I want for the forward section of the secondary hull when looking at it from the front or bottom (talking about in my sketches).

Does anyone have the First Contact/Generations sketch book?

If so, maybe you can help me talk about how to achieve a similar hull structure of the 'chicken' Ent-E concept on pg.88-89.

Also, should I pull the shuttle bay closer to the warp nacelle pylon?

Zanith
January 4th, 2003, 08:56 AM
Here are some updates (including logo).

Look at the two ships and tell me which one seems to look like the better of the two. (Look at the warp nacelles and their position.)

C&C welcome!

mercutiojb
January 5th, 2003, 07:26 PM
Yup, they'll be fine. I've been working on the bridge for the last couple of days actually. Not too much done yet though, I try to get the lighting perfected first. I'll post soon.

Zanith
January 5th, 2003, 07:36 PM
You and you're lighting. Awesome work. need that over-head view of the bridge I drew as a base for ideas? Or no?

mercutiojb
January 6th, 2003, 12:49 AM
I'm basing it off of Sean's original Enterprise-F design, but yes, go ahead and send that overhead, I could use it. I'll post what I have in a few mins, when the render finishes.

Zanith
January 7th, 2003, 01:34 AM
Awesome work Mercutio. It is starting to grow on me. Bridge overhead will be up tomorrow.

As if this @$$ could not get any finer, I am adding details to it. Heh. Little stuff, of course.

C&C?? And yes, Jupiter has gone blue! :D

Should I go open panel or closed for the sensor pallet?

I'd have commented sooner, but I've been waiting for it to download. :D:D:D:D:D 603K is WAY too big for an image that size. You might want to try compressing your WIP pics for us - not everyone has a high speed connection.

Looking good, but blend the back of the pylon's root into the ledge beneath the shuttle bay doors. Take a look at this image to se what I mean. Notice also the greatly reduced filesize (quality set to 7 in Photoshop). ;)

Commodore-SirJohn
January 20th, 2003, 10:43 AM
I'd change the font on the fantail to Federation Bold/Microgramma Bold Extended (which is used on nearly every Trek vessel since TMP). Other than that, it looks outstanding!

Zanith
January 20th, 2003, 10:48 AM
Will do. Got a copy of the font you can zap me? I do not have my ST fonts anymore. Times New Roman seemed to do the job, for the moment.

Commodore-SirJohn
January 20th, 2003, 10:54 AM
Well, I got all mine from the net, so here are links to some of my sources:

http://www.ussmatrix.org/archives/fonts.html has most of the better-known fonts, but their LCARS one sucks.

http://www.cbcn-online.com/archive/lcars/tt0106m_.ttf is a good LCARS font.

If there's anything else you need, let me know.

Zanith
April 21st, 2003, 12:21 AM
Well, okay, it was slow, but I did get them up. Not much, was too lazy to convert the latest progress,

Opinion on the secondary hull windows??

I cut out the saucer rim docking port. Suggestions on a new spot for a side docking port aside the side of the secondary hull?

Without further adieu . . . .

LARGER VERSION (http://zanith56.hypermart.net/images/JUPITER-23LRG-1.jpg)

Commodore-SirJohn
April 21st, 2003, 01:37 AM
Place it along the edge of the primary hull.

Zanith
April 21st, 2003, 08:07 AM
That is what I was thinking, but would I not have to make a cut in the hull curvature to make a flat surface for the port? I thought of having two parts of the hull retract for the dock port hatch, but I thought that was too much work just to get to a port. Although, I am sure on a film it is good eye candy.

Commodore-SirJohn
April 21st, 2003, 08:10 AM
Not necessarily. It depends on the placement. Though it wouldn't be the first time we've had a docking port hidden behind a panel (they did it in TMP, after all)...

Zanith
April 21st, 2003, 03:01 PM
That was not a docking port, though, as far as I understand. That was just an external port for space walkers, repairmen, and for those rare situations.

Am I right?

Commodore-SirJohn
April 21st, 2003, 05:49 PM
It had the same shape as a docking port, so that's what I understood it to be.

Zanith
April 21st, 2003, 09:19 PM
Oh, I think it was just an access hatch. If you ever find a pic, please post it. Heh. I just think retractive armor plating over a hatch would be a lot of wasted space and just mere eye candy. However, in combat it does have its advantages. Keeps the enemy from getting in. Heh Or at least prevents them from making a hole in the hull. LOL!

Commodore-SirJohn
April 21st, 2003, 09:24 PM
Unfortunately, my only ready reference is the TMP Director's edition DVD, but I don't have a DVD drive in my computer, so I can't post a screencap. :(

FireLode from SFM and Braxton want to do it. And I think a couple others. I would love to see this thing in Ships of the Line or even as . . .

Admiral Janeways Flagship. LOL!! THAT WOULD RULE!!!

Hey two questions.

1] Is this design dead, or on hiatus? Not preassuring, just curious. It is really sweet.

2] How big is she in comparission to other canon starships?

Thanks in advance and keep up the tremendously cool work :)

Zanith, when you're done with this, we REALLY need to redo the Nottingham class.

BTW, is the second digit of the registry number an 8 or a 9? If it's an 8, this thing is not long after the Nottingham class (NX-78505 through NCC-78510) which I've made the first CKE (large explorer, to use Alex Rosenzweig's classification system) built after the end of the Dominion War.

Also, by the size of the aft shuttlebay and docking ports, she doesn't look all that much larger than a Sovereign class ship...

Galen

Hello Old friend, the Jupiter is looking very very good. Keep up the work and fast.:D

Because if you dont, I will :phaser: you.

Zanith

BGEN-SirJohn

Her reg is NX-79600, for now. She is to be the following project to the Sovereign class Project. Also, she is not much larger than the Sovereign, or not yet. heh. Concepts always have room for change. Heh.

This is to be more meaty than the Sovy. heh!

Thanks Galen! I am on it! ;)

Galen
June 21st, 2003, 08:45 PM
I thought the Jupiter was meant to be build before the Sovereign? Sort of a go-between the Galaxy and Sovereign?

What a handsome craft. Such lovely lines.

An example of a good and successful implimentation of the John Eaves design esthetic. She looks like a refit Ambassador-class vessel to me, or a succesor to the Ambassador-class. Does the Jupiter-class have similar dimensions? I also like the design because it looks rugged and looks like it can take punishment, in addition to dishing alot out. Characteristics that I think that are always necessary for a warship. Any other views of the design coming soon? I look forward to seeing the Bow/Fore and Dorsal illustrations especially.

I also would like say that I am a big fan of your other designs that I have seen at ASDF. I especially like the Waverunner-class design, it has an unconventional design but at the same time has elements that remind you that its a member of the Starfleet family. Seeing it, I was reminded of the Airbus Beluga or the Super Guppy.

I also like the design of the Remmington-classs dreadnaught.

Any chance we will see other views of these classes as well?

Keep up the good work. :)
