If anyone is going to be in the San Francisco Bay area, DD will be up there as part of a recruiting campaign on March 7th and 8th. By the way, don't let the requirements (like so many years production experience, etc.) deter applying if you feel like you could do the job. Here's the info:


Digital Domain, the Academy Award winning VFX studio located in Venice Beach, CA, will be in the Bay Area on March 7 & 8 to meet experienced, senior level digital artists. We have a wide range of current and upcoming projects in our feature film and commercial divisions, and are looking for talented people in all areas. CHARACTER ANIMATORS require a minimum of 2 years experience in Commercial and/or Feature animation. Artistic sensibility needed in the areas of modeling, lighting and animation. Work should demonstrate ability to define character personality, create fluid motion, organic movement, and storytelling. Additional requirements include classical training, traditional character development, and knowledge of inverse kinematic systems, constraints and expressions.
Software: Maya, Renderman and Mental Ray.

CHARACTER SETUP requires a strong knowledge of Maya and an artistic eye to set up characters with skeletons, deformers, and expressions, as well as creating intuitive interfaces and tools. Familiarity with principles of animation, as well as polygonal modeling and uv's is a necessity. Programming/scripting experience a plus, as well as a strong understanding of anatomy. Strong problem solving skills are a must.

PREVIS ARTISTS should have demonstrated ability to construct shots from storyboard reference, the ability to take a shot or sequence from beginning to end (model, animate, light & render), and the ability to construct models from concept art. Real world camera experience is a necessity, as well as the ability to simulate real world camera techniques within 3d (hand-held, steadicam, etc.) and familiarity with lenses, lens-lengths. Editing experience helpful.

COMPOSITORS require a minimum of 2 years Compositing experience on Feature Films and/or Commercials using node based compositing software. Compositors are responsible for shot sequences, creating temp comps, 2D tracking, assembling green screen elements, 3D elements, and background plates for final composites. Understanding of color difference matting, and an eye for color and scene match is necessary.
Software: Inferno/Flame/Flint, Combustion, Shake, Cineon, and Nuke (Digital Domain's proprietary compositing software).

DIGITAL MATTE & TEXTURE PAINTERS require a minimum of 2 years experience in Features and/or Commercials with knowledge and ability in perspective/motion and proficiency in matte painting and/or creating and applying textures. Software: Deep Paint, Amazon, and Photoshop.

ROTOSCOPE ARTISTS require a minimum of 1 year experience in Feature Film and/or Commercials creating mattes and removing wires and rigs. Morphing experience is a plus. Software: Elastic Reality, Combustion, and Matador.

EFFECTS ANIMATORS require at least 2 years experience on SGI, UNIX and/or NT platforms. Proficiency with natural phenomenon solutions and shader development is a plus. Experience with procedural modeling and animation is essential. A demonstrable ability to complete challenging aesthetic and technical assignments is required. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years CG production experience. High-end Commercial and Feature Film animation experience preferred. Software: Houdini, Lightwave, Maya, Renderman, and Mental Ray.

MODELERS require at least 2 years experience and demonstrated ability with high-end 3D modeling to create complex models and/or characters. Ability to develop techniques for modeling organic shapes from conceptual artwork. Software: Maya, Houdini, Lightwave, Renderman, and Mental Ray.

SOFTWARE ENGINEERS should have real world experience in object-oriented design and developing complex software systems. A degree in computer science (or related field) with minimum of 2 years experience in computer graphics software design required. Applicants should be proficient in C++, Open Inventor, and Open GL. Knowledge of 2D algorithms, signal processing and GUI design is desirable. SGI and/or NT experience a plus.

TECHNICAL DIRECTORS must be proficient in the writing of Renderman and/or Mental Ray shaders with proficiency in at least 2 scripting or programming languages such as C/C++, Perl, MEL, hscript, csh, or TCL (C++ and Perl are most desired). Must have experience optimizing and debugging renders and developing and implementing systems and pipelines for high-end visual effects work.

TRACKING ARTISTS require a minimum of 1 year experience in Feature Film and/or Commercial production, working on stages with cameras, or Match Moving. Trackers are responsible for obtaining pertinent information from live action shoots, taking shots (plates), and setting up in
Digital Domain's proprietary tracking program, tracking each shot and transferring files into the hi-end software (i.e., Houdini, Maya, Lightwave) used by Effects and/or Character Animators. Strong mathematical skills are a plus. Software: Track (Digital Domain's proprietary tracking software).
