OK, Ive recently upgraded to W2K (Yes Im well behind the times) and reinstalled Max. At the beginning it gave an option to select renderer type Direct3D, HEIDI or what ever it is. I selected D3D and now I keep on getting the following fatal error.

interactive 3D renderer initialization failed
please check your device sttings using the -H command line option

The instruction at "0x00000190" referenced memory at "0x00000190" The memory could not be "read"

No Im either thick or my eyes are painted on but I cant seem to find an answer to this problem. Someone has mentioned RAM or Video Card memeory fault, I removed reinstalled all and same fault.
Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hito: Actually fixed it I was close but had to ask a mate all I had to do was run this
C:\3DSMAX3\3dsmax.exe -H
And it lets you reselect the renderer before entering Max, I needed anything but the HEIDI option.

Thanks

alternatively you could have deleted the 3dsmax.cfg (or similar).
that might be a bit on the brutal side, but it works. :D
