Check out this web site:

http://www.newvoyages.com/

It is the site for an amateur filmmaker group that has received permission from Paramount to produce their own version of the Classic Star Trek series. They have made 3 episodes since 2003, and are trying to produce 2 per year. John Winston, who played Lt. Kyle in the Paramount TV show as well as in Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan, has been a guest star. In fact, I found the new series when I did an IMBD search on his name. They plan to have new versions of the videos after October 15th available for download.

With the STAR TREK series ended on television. This does seem like the right time to do something new and original. On the web anything is possible.i am a fan of the original series and this looks great.Although i wlii get around to seeing all the episodes they have shot so far.I am pretty sure this will be popular with STAR TREK fans on the net.I hope they do some episodes based on the book novels like DREADNAUGHT,KOBAYASHI MARU,and PRIME DIRECTIVE.On that note just in closing LLAP : )

New Voyages is only one of the trek fanfilms that is in the net. Here is a short list:

* Starship Exeter (http://starshipexeter.com/): based in the USS Exeter around the timeframe of The Animated Series. They are currently releasing their second episode (explanation in the site)

* Hidden Frontier (http://www.hiddenfrontier.org/) : Long going, they are currently in their sixth season. Post DS9 timeframe.

* Tales of the 7th Fleet/USS Justice (http://www.ussjustice.org/) : They are working in their third episode. Post ST VI timeframe.

* Star Wreck (http://www-uk.starwreck.com/) : a Trek spoof.

And only counting the ones that have actually released episodes. There at least two times those in preproduction.

*USS Intrepid (http://www.ussintrepid.net/) : spin-off from Hidden Frontier.

*Starship Farragut (http://starshipfarragut.com/index.html)

* A couple of them set in the TOS era (http://thejimmyjames.illhostit.com/forum/)

And several more...

That's a pretty cool project. I'm not spending the next week downloading an episode on 56k, but it's cool nontheless. Besides, they're in crappy windows media format, which isn't compatible with other programs. They need to release some in DivX format.

I'm a fan of the New Voyages. The actors do a great job of carrying on the traditions of the original series. It was great to see Captain PIke in action again, though I could do with less time travel episodes... :)

Time for a bump. :tongue2:

I've been visiting with some family members the last few days and my uncle sent my other uncle (who claims he's a Sci-Fi nut and a Trekkie, but I have my doubts sometimes) some of these New Voyages episodes on DVD. Anywho, my uncle who claims to be a Trekkie didn't like them that well (says he didn't like the scripts and acting but liked the special effects) so he gave them to me.

So, I just watched the first episode, In Harm's Way and I'm really impressed. For a fan film, it has great production values, not bad acting and a decent story line. It's kinda cheesy and corny, but that's how TOS is. (And the dude playing Kirk really did a good job at overacting, just like William Shatner. ;)) My favorite was the CGI (go figure ;)) which was really well done. Their models are well built, the animation is nice and fluid and the special effects are great.

So, if anybody hasn't checked this show out (and you have the internet connection) you should. I have 4 more of the New Voyages and 2 Starship Farragut episodes to watch. :D

BTW, the Starship Farragut link on the first page of this thread is wrong now, but I found the site with Google. (they have DVD covers for my newly acquired DVDs, Yay! :D) Here's the correct link:

I haven't watched any of the others (yet) but Starship Farragut is good entertainment. Don't give up on the first episode, though. (some people do or I wouldn't bring it up) For Want of a Nail is a great episode. In fact, it won an award at the Wrath of Con convention, best fan film of 2007, or something like that. One thing I like about Farragut is that they're not using the Enterprise, so that allows them to come up with new characters for the main cast.
