I just finished watching up to the end of Season 8 on DVD. Sort of a lackluster ending. Is this because they were unsure if the sahow would be back for a 9th?

Maybe, at any rate, its not the same without O'neal.

I guess he leaves in Season 9, which I have not seen because it's not on DVD yet.
