I recently merged these posts instead of just moving them and made a complete mess of it... catherine3678a did not originate the thread but I did.

Taranis

I will be converting the model into obj.

but all I use is Lightwave ... I will need some one to reload the textures in their specific program.

but :) its been looked into as we speck :)

Ok, then Carrara 7 Lite is very different than Carrara 7 Pro.
:(

I can do the conversions if you'd like.
Let me know what you need and I'll get it done.
It'll take a little while because I'm currently working on an animated Star Trek film and that is priority #1 at the moment.

I may also already have what you need converted.

Clothes are good and I like to see your work , how about opening a WIP thread if your working on and if you have finished anything lets see it here!!

Fretslayer is you man for this stuff ,, I don´t have a clue about it.

what models in lightwave where you looking at, we are looking to have some converted into other programs and I was just chatting with Fretslayer about that very thing.

The lightwave objects I was trying for are in the download area ... I made a note there ;-) The Bridge and the Corridor.

yeah I saw that ..... :) and I answered ....

fretslayer has been working on them as they where for a fan film. when he has them ready he will upload them:)

WONDERFUL!!! Thank you :-)

Reloading the textures etc is not a problem ... if the material "areas" can be kept that's obviously helpful.

No problem ,,,, were glad to help.

but I want to see whatever art you do here also .. :)

Deal

The halllway is a breeze to convert but the bridge...well, the computer screens are giving me reason to pull out my hair. Good thing I have a lot of it. LOL!

Okay ... yes, our posts have been crossing in the air lol ....

I am going to move these threads to a new area .... it taking to much of the welcome thread ....

Well of course!

I'm not the best renderer in the world ... but we'll get there ...

Here's a bit for our friends using Poser, Daz Studio and/or Carrara.

I'm currently in the process of converting many of our Lightwave, TrueSpace and Max models for use in Poser, D|S and Carrara.

If you have a request please feel free to mention it and I'll bump it up in the queue.

Gee... after reading that first post, I can't tell if catherine is a gal or a guy, if she uses DAZ and Carrara or Lightwave, if she merged the posts or if some ghost did LOL

Yeah, it's a combination of many posts ... kinda got scrambled when the moderator was moving a whole bunch of posts from the welcome thread to over here.
He apologized ... I said not to worry about it.
Think he's off watching television now ;-)

Catherine3678a is a gal.

Oh Okay ... obviously I'm the new one in here!

I like the site and the folk seem quite friendly ...

One thing we love around here is enthusiastic artists. It's what makes the place go.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

And NICE Dr. McCoy/Alien in bar scene from STIII reference there ;)

Oh I am always teased :)

But we want this site to be friendly and encouraging too all who are here. to share models, Art, Chat and generally to have some fun.

We encourage this and we don´t judge your art or your models
, but we may offer suggestions that may improve on it if we can

But its always up to you to take it or leave it.. (the suggestions that is) as you have your own vision.

we are all for the most part hobbyists.

if you want your space scene to be as vivid and wild with red or orange yellow background .. bring it on.. we want to see it

On subject of mesh convertion, I have an old program called 3deep exploration. Its pretty good an converting various formats. I prefer lightwave models when converting to obj. They tend to keep their UV coordinates intact.

Deep Exploration is an excellent app for converting. I use the Cad Edition v.5.5 for a lot of my conversions. Warrior uses it as well... and actually it was because of a conversation I had with him when I first started hanging around this site, that I picked up DE for converting.

Lw does convert nicely with the textures.

it does .. as I am only a LW user I have no clue about the effects on other programs.. I have never UV mapp .. at least not yet..

I do love 3DE. Its allowed me to get my grubby mits on some awesome models.

UV mapping can be a pain. Lining up the seams top bottom and sides not to mention usually there are several maps of various section of the mesh.

I have seen some maps for uv and never got to grips with it .. been lazy really....

You Lazy? Never ;)

UV Mapping is pretty easy especially if you use Modo to do it.. Lightwave's UV Mapping tools are primitive in comparison.. Best program for UV mapping by far is Maya , but the cost outlay isn't worth it just to convert stuff.

:laugh: well I spend a lot of time on my backside ..

:)
true enough regarding the cost and not been worth it....

Fretslayer has done far more conversions than I, but I really should bit the bullet and just do one.

I know that many friends have pointed me in the direction of good tuts..

Bluto over at Daz3D has begun a Poser/Daz conversion of the Klingon Hallway.
He's broken it into segments and created a Klingon Hallways Construction Kit with it.
So far, its looking pretty cool.

I may still finish the conversion I started just in case it's still needed.

the more the merrier. but see how Bluto gets on first...he had a good idea breaking it up more that I did ... i only attempted it in a small way

Dumb question, but why can't the progress and stuff be posted here at 3DG? I am sure Taranis would love to see how the conversion is going. And bluto is a member here...
