I'm not a very good writer, but I do come up with a few ideas now and then. So here's an idea for a fanfic (series?) if someone decides to tackle it. I know that there have been several BG/SW crossovers, but this is slightly different from the types of stories I've seen. The Galactica left the colonies with an objective to find Earth, and I can't believe that Adama didn't have some idea as to what his initial heading should be, or else he might have put the Colonies and the Cylon Empire between him and Earth. Other refugees, be they civilian or military, not having this information could have fled in almost any direction leaving no hope of later encountering the Galactica or the Pegasus.

The chances of non-military vessels surviving long are slim to none. So let's focus on one (or more) other Battlestars that may have fled on some other unknown trajectory, picking up ships in their 'ragtag' fleet as they progressed. Most would not survive the journey, but maybe a handful eventually arrive in another region of the galaxy 'far far away'. This would take place sometime early in the Star Wars timeframe (around ep 2?).

Since this storyline would exist in it's own 'world' we can change some things within the SW expanded universe.

This fleet, not knowing anything about the inhabitants of this new region of space, would travel through it making as little contact as possible as they try familiarising themselves with their new surroundings. Eventually approaching a dense cluster of stars and making contact with the Hapan Empire.

You want Cylons? Believing the Hapans to be the lost 13th tribe, and the Hapans finding some remarkable parallels between the story of Kobol and the Colonies and the ancient stories of their own origins, a joint effort is launched to head back towards to Colonies, not to take them back, but hoping to rescue more refugees and bring them into the safety of the Hapan Star Cluster. Such a mission would of course arouse the Cylons into action, and an offensive against the this task force would be launched.

These battles would take place in or near the rim sectors and capture the attention of Palpatine. The Empire (new at this point) would come to their aid and repel the Cylon assault. Large numbers of Cylon Basestars would be captured by the Hapan/Colonial Alliance and form the core of a new Hapan fleet.

In the years following, the Hapan Empire adopts the Basestar design, renamed the Battle Dragon, and begins constructing it's own war fleet. At the same time a new fleet of advanced Battlestars is constructed and eventually sent on a mission to retake the Colonies (sometime prior to ep 4).

The first time we see the Hapan's in the expanded SW universe is in the novel "The Courtship of Princess Leia. There are striking similiarities between the Battle Dragon and the Cylon Basestar, and the Basestar just looks so much better. At this time the Hapans also had a surprisingly large number of Star Destroyers in their fleet. This would seem to indicate that they were either alligned with the Empire at some time, or that they fought and these Star Destroyers were captured or stolen from the Empire at some point.

In another novel "The Truce at Bakura" we see a new race called the Psi-Ruuvi (spelling?) who themselves were reptilian, but their fighters were cyborgs created by 'enteching' war prisoners. Sort of a mix of the Cylons from BG and the Borg from Trek. For fanfic purposes this story (which takes place right after ep6 rotj) could be about a second Cylon attempt to assault Republic/Imperial space. Just replace the Psi-Ruuvi with Cylons. It was mentioned that some agreement was reached with Palpatine which required the Psi Ruuvi(Cylons) to leave the Empire alone, and as soon as Palpatine died the agreement was broken. Within days the first assault forces began arriving in the Bakura system. This 'agreement' could have been to catalyst for whatever relations were carried out between the Hapans and the Empire from that point on. The Cylons would need to cross Imperial space in order to assault the Cluster, and this could have been their true intention when Palpatine was killed. Using Bakura as a staging point. And it may have been the threat of war with the Cylons that kept the Hapans from leaving the Cluster for so many years.

I forget where, but in a later novel it gets mentioned (in past tense) that the New Republic sent a war fleet into Psi-Ruuvi(Cylon) space to head off any future threats, only to find their fleets and worlds in ruin. It was thought that the Chiss(Admiral Thrawn's race) may have been responsible. But what if they weren't? What if it was the work of a reborn Colonial Fleet?

Would the Hapans be the lost 13th tribe? Probably not. An offshoot? Maybe. More likely an offshoot (or descendants) of one of the 12 tribes though. But if someone decides to write this they can do whatever they want.
