Your vessel needs a name, Masao. Plus, some insignia...

I know the Daedalus is from the wrong era, but hey, who knows how long the Romulan "..." class remained in service!

Love it and boy were you quick! Bad news for the Daedalus http://www.startrek-forums.com/gladiators/ubb/html/smilies/frown.gif

Is the mesh available (pleeeeeeeeease!)

Add a neb or something in the background, make the image 1024x768, make it a higher quality render, then make three more scenes, and send to me for uploading http://www.startrek-forums.com/gladiators/ubb/html/smilies/biggrin.gif

(No credits or logo. We'll add the logo in)

I can export it as 3ds but someone will have to sep it out into surfaces for texturing. I'll post within 24 hrs.

Can you export EACH object seperatly?

Otherwise, your 3ds files all have the same surface/object names http://www.startrek-forums.com/gladiators/ubb/html/smilies/frown.gif

How's this? I could break it down into three models -
body, arms, knobbies.

Breaking it down further could be a problem. Perhaps you could describe what kind of breakdown actually makes sense?

I know in Max you can break it down by each part modeled.

In Lightwave, you can break it down by each surface (which is almost the same thing as doing that in Max)

But for both, when importing an object that is saved as one whole object with no heirachy, it's a pain to break up and texture. So if you could break it sown as far as possible, that'd be better.

As you do each, upload them, then you can delete off your HD to save space there http://www.startrek-forums.com/gladiators/ubb/html/smilies/smile.gif

Holy cow! That was fast.

I like the little details you added to the engines. At the center of the primary hull is supposed to be a forerunner of the big plasma weapon the Rommies used in "Balance of Terror." It's some sort of FTL energy weapon. The center projection (modeled here as a raised green ring) should be a little dome with a deep hole in the middle. The hole might glow menacingly when the weapon is powering up. Outside the dome (between the raised green ring and the black ring) should be a dark hollow, maybe slightly deeper than you show it.

You probably need to turn that green down a bit and make it look more like the TNG warbird. I do most of my work on a laptop and the screen colors appeared less vibrant than they really are.

Regarding the scene: if all these ships fire they're likely to hit one of their mates! Anyway, the Daedalus is a goner: life sucks sometimes.

I didn't specify a relative size for this ship, but it looks good as you have rendered it.

Great work.

Some things you can't pick up without a cross section!

Nonsensical side note - The scale is actually way off. I modeled it on top of the schems which are of course 72 dpi, so the ship is about 5cm long. I did the same thing with the Daedalus, so it's about 4cm. http://www.startrek-forums.com/gladiators/ubb/html/smilies/smile.gif When you guys import into Max or LW, it's gonna be a speck! In contrast, my E is modeled at life size, in other words, 11 feet long! I should really settle on a scale to model at. My bridge model is about 30' across. It was tough to cram it in my little tiny E. I'm reminded of that Simpson's episode where Burns tries to get Smithers to get into the model of the spruce goose.

I'll add a few more bits and pieces, fix up the energy cannon (I might stick the Yamato's wave motion camera in that hole) and start thinking about a 3ds breakdown and textures.

A Yamato/Star Trek crossover?!? Cool!

I know it's hard to pick up details from the standard 4 views. In the future, I'll try to include detail drawings and cutaways of complex parts for all you modelers.

When I draw, I try to keep a constant scale of 1/1000 (or easy multiples), which then helps me when I need to take measurements for specifications (for museum articles) or to draw ships to the same scale for fleet charts. However, when I drew this ship, I just drew on the basis of shape without my trusty scale bar or any other ships for reference. When I compare it now to my Earth ships of the same era, an "actual size" of 80 to 100 m in diameter looks about right. Daedalus, of course is a real runt so almost any ship that looks in scale with my bigger ships will make Daedalus look even smaller.

Yeah - Wave Motion Guns! I think the scale is fine as the Warbirds in TNG are supposed to be bruisers. The Roms have hugh egos and should have ships to match.
