...Jason's last piece was great and makes this look a little.... eh! (I happen to be composing this the other day.) Had to do something with my Klingy and the Cracker meshes.

I have to agree with you, Thomas, it sort of lacks a certain "oomph." I think one problem is that the back view of Cracker is a bit uninteresting. The view from back and below you showed in your post of the original render (Dec 1) was more interesting because it revealed more of the markings. Maybe you can show a second Romulan ship veering off its attack run on the other ship, also in flames. This might allow you to show another angle to the ship. Also, when in doubt add bigger explosions.

You see, this is why you guy's are so helpful. The 'explosion' is actually supposed to be a Romulan plasma weapon. The angle you describe was one I was trying to go for but ran into that 'too close together' problem. Back to the mouse...

Should probably be brighter if it is a plasma weapon.

The plasma should be brighter, yes.

But also there should be somethign showing that it is coming from the Rom ship.

Ergo, either place the Rom ship on the other side facing us with the plasma firing from it, *or* add another Rom ship showing it firing from the front.

Another little trick is to "teardrop" the plasma slightly, with the tail coming from the Rom ship.

Warrior's idea of a reverse angle might work nicely. Also, if this pic is part of a series, than you don't need to show the entire action and all participants in one shot. You might have a picture of the Romulan attacking from the point of view of a guy standing on or slightly in front of the Klingon ship. You'd have part of the Klingon ship in the foreground and the Romulan in the background firing the plasma weapon.

Another thing you might try is to move more out of the two dimensions. Your picture as it is now could be out of the Pacific War, if you replace the Romulan with a Devastator or Avenger and the Klingon with a Japanese cruiser (or Me 109s and Liberators). So to spice things up, show the Klingon ship being attacked from an unusual angle, like from the bottom.

Okay - new angle and other interprutations of the various suggestions. Like these lasers more than on the last pic I posted.

Yes, looks better. Nice explosions and the laser effect is better.

Give the Klingon Vessel some Motion-blur & it'll be perfect!

Very Dynamic! (But maybe the Romulan on the left is too close? He appears to be on a collision course with the Klingon ship, unless his lasers/phasers are angled downward from the path of the ship.)

Thumbs up! That second shot is great! My only suggest to add a little something, would be to have the laser cut through the Klingon ship. But that's just a suggestion (I think it would look cool myself http://www.3dgladiators.net/workforum/ubb/html/smilies/smile.gif)
