Pain in the...

Here's something I made over the length of the day.

Lee February 5th, 2008 05:53 PM

hehe, cool! I thought it was a chest burster for a min. One day huh? man you work fast..

evil_genius_180 February 5th, 2008 10:47 PM

Dude, that's cool. And in one day? That is fast. :D

mikala February 5th, 2008 10:54 PM

Thank you :) Yup one day. It's really quite a simple mesh. ZBrush makes modeling intricate organic shapes fast and quite easy. I think in Lightwave it's about 480 polys. Once it's all meshed up in ZBrush it sits at 1,700,000 plus polys. That will be translated into a Displacemnt map a normal map and a bump map. and then reapplied in Lightwave to make the low poly look hi poly.
That will take almost as much time to finesse around as making the mesh.
I might try an Alien Drone next. That or a Predator.

Agree - very nice and for a days work.

evil_genius_180 February 6th, 2008 11:04 AM

This reminds me of something, but I can't think of what. It's been bugging me. I might be thinking of a creature from a VG or something.

Awesome ZBrush work.... do you mind posting a shot of the low poly LWO mesh? It would be really interesting to see where this beastie evolved from.

Cheers! — Möe

There you go. That is the LWO as it stands at import into ZBrush.

Moebius February 21st, 2008 08:15 AM

Whoa! That's a pretty dense mesh. You've really bumped up the sub-division level when you brought it over to ZBrush. Good stuff.

Thank you! — Möe

This is the original mesh in LW.

One day? I'm impressed! And damn fine mesh if you ask me!

Thank you but it's not a huge accomplishment when you use your base program and ZBrush.
Even though ZBrush is it's own program I think it is the best plugin for Lightwave that I've ever invested my money in.
It lets you build/sculpt at an insane pace.
I've seen far nicer looking work over the course of a day by other people.
Thanks again :)

I wouldn't say it's not a huge accomplishment. I've never used Zbrush (heard nice things about it, though) but I'm sure there are people who don't have that kind of success with it. Sometimes stuff seems like it ain't no thing to you but to others it's mind boggling.

I just wish sometimes I was closer to people so I could show them at a sitdown just how quick you can get things done. I appreciate the kind words though.

Re: Pain in the...

I've never seen Zbrush in action, so I have no idea how it works and such. If it's anything anything like Paint Deformation (3ds Max), then I can see how you can quickly paint details like that into a mesh.
