Starship Exeter

Anyone seen it?
http://homepage.mac.com/starshipexeter/

It is a great fanfilm set in the TOS era.
THey built sets and made costumes that are pretty much dead on.

I've been to that site, but I've hesitated watching the show because of the large file sizes. But what the hell. I'm downloading the first part now. 43 MB! This is gonna take a while.

Hito December 23rd, 2002 10:58 PM

i downloaded the whole thing on my high speed connection at work and watched it all at once :D

Masao December 23rd, 2002 11:27 PM

After watching the first part I don't think I'll download the rest. Although the uniforms, the sets, the sound effects and the Andorian crewman's accent were good, the writing, camera work, and acting were pretty bad. They beam down to this planet and immediately start a long discussion about the relation of the Andorians to wildlife! Pretty dull.

They do what?? Very bizarre. I've never heard of it, and based on the files sizes, will probably never see it. Dialup, you know?

aww go on
they have a klingon (chang from tuc) later on and fistfights and even some space combat.
it is full of cheez
and is way better at least then the next gen fan films that are out

There's a thread on this in the Welcome and Websites as well.

A lot of work went into this.. years in the making.

I myself think Jimm and crew did a good job for a live action fan film.

Hito December 24th, 2002 12:24 PM

definatly.
i can only hope my movies turn out as well as this one :D

Masao December 24th, 2002 04:39 PM

I agree that the film looks good and appreciate the work that went into the props and costumes. However they could have spent a bit more time on the writing. I guess I'm being a bit harsh, though, having only seen the first part. Disclaimer: I spent a year after college studying and working in independent film (documentary and shorts). I learned all about cameras, lighting, editing, sound, etc.

I found it rather humorous and well done for a fan flick. I do have to agree that the acting was a tad on the 'no effort' side when measured against the production effort. I thought they wrote as well as the boy's over at Enterprise (well, actually better :D).

I started to worry when the com officer (part 1) 'guessed' that the captain had hailed them.

It's worth the bandwidth overall.

U.S.S. Exeter, NCC-1672 Crew reduced to crystals by Omega VI disease; formerly commanded by Captain Ron Tracey.

This series does have one thing in its favor above the other fanfilm TOS series. There's no time travel!

Re: Starship Exeter

This may be an old thread, but I have to add something to it anyhow.

While "Savage Empire" has a lot of technical hurdles in the realism department, if you compare it to some of the shots of the Enterprise in the original version of "The Cage," they're not that different.

Every production effort gets off to a tough start. Every pilot has a first solo. :)

"The Tressaurian Intersection" in my opinion, has really elevated the quality of the Exeter series to a rock solid production, and, they kept it with the 'look' of the '60's version of Star Trek, without going all CGI happy.

I think that it stands up next to Classic Trek really well, and the acting has improved a lot. Remembering these are fans, they did a helluva good job, in my opinion. I just hope the final chapter of TTI comes out soon.

Re: Starship Exeter

I haven't checked out Exeter yet (it's on the list for when I get a new PC) but I've heard other people say it stands up really well to TOS. Someone on another forum said it's the closest that any of the fan films come to the original. I'm definitely gonna have to download what they've done so far after I get that new PC and watch it. :)
