Seeking High Quality Models For Live Action Imperial Recruitment Film

I am lucky to have been asked to direct a high quality ten minute long fan film and would love to include any Star Wars models/meshes you talented people here would be willing to donate.

It is an Imperial Recruitment Film. A sort of "be all you can be" propaganda film meant to entice residents of the Star Wars universe into joining the Empire. Through cooperation with the 501st Garrison we will be featuring an impressive array of over 50 live action costumed Imperial characters and literally dozens of Stormtroopers. The footage will be shot in DV. We will film at some of the same Southern California locations Lucas used in the original Star Wars Trilogy. Then mix that with a blend of cg backdrops and practical interior sets.

The crew is complete and includes a few very talented cg artists. We would prefer to use existing models in order to save time. I am aware of the many sites that offer the use of their models and we are very grateful to all of you that make your models available there for fan film makers.

However, the greatest work I've seen lies hidden in forums such as this one. If you, or some one you know has a high quality or rare model, we would love to bring it to life for you in an environment that will do it justice. Buildings, ships, etc....preferrably Imperial...anything may be useful if it fits in a time frame just prior to Episode IV.

It goes without saying that all work will be properly credited in the finished film, and I will attempt to provide all involved with a copy of the final product. (I say attempt because I'm afraid I might not be able to physically locate all of the modelers that will be credited.)

I even feel that due to the nature of our fan film (its not the standard narrative/drama, more like a big fancy commercial), models that some of you may be reserving for use in your own film, would be served well with a brief sneak preview in this one.

Anyways, I'm notorious for rambling. Sorry to keep you, and sorry for panhandling in your forum. I hope some of you will find this interesting. If so, or if you have any questions, please post them here. My email address is Kevin@ExFilms. (my site is under construction and very outdated, I apologize)

Thanks for listening! :)

(By the way, I have a clip of some very early trooper test footage I shot, complete w/plates, available for download. It's designed to have cg added. Maybe some of you would like to use it for animating/compositing your own stuff just for fun or practice. http://www.ExFilms.com/IRP/IRPtest.mov and http://www.ExFilms.com/IRP/IRPtestplates.mov if anyone uses it to practice on, I would love to see your work. I'm a big fan of cg and the things you guys can do amazes me all the time.)

Welcome aboard!
i am just going to move this to the proper forum.

Have you tried the Star Wars Modeling alliance?
They specialize in Star Wars stuff.
tho they tend to be down more often than not...
www.swma.com

Or theforce.net has some good 3d resources

Oops, sorry about that Hito, didn't see this section.

Thanks for the move and for offering other resources. :)

I've found a great deal of help at other forums and especially at TheForce.net Fan Film forum.

Actually, we have everything we need to make our film. But, I posted here because I thought that great 3D model artists may not necessarily be film makers. So maybe some would enjoy the opportunity to see their work used in a film. (I know it would also benefit us and make our film better so don't think i'm trying to pull one over on anyone) ;)

So, just a thought, wanted to give it a shot.

There are mirros, if you can find them, they had some of the best models aviable, and not only that, in the gallery they had some impressive artists..

Ryoken3D -

I loved "Join the Empire".

Yes, this is sort of a live action, expanded (10 minute) sequel.

(Not really a sequel I guess. Cee-Gee is aware of our project and has encouraged it, however, we are not affiliated at all.)

Btw these qt are witch codecs ? Cos standard QuickTime 3 or 4 canĀ“t play them .

ExFilms February 27th, 2002 07:13 AM

Tom Grays,

I always forget to mention. We're all in love with the new On2 VP3 codec plug in for QT. Beautiful, high-quality compression. And much smaller files usually than Sorenson 3.

You can get the codec here for free:

http://www.vp3.com/getvp3/index.shtml

Enter your name and email to register, than it will take you to the free download page. The free QT plug-in will let you play and compress using On2.

I reccomend it for anyone showing video on the internet. :D
