Lost Tutorials

Lost to the internet and time is Keir Darby's space tutorials. Try as I might i can't find them anywhere online and his site is gone. If anyone saved them I'd love to get them.

I started thinking about all the magical space/star trek tutorials that have been lost to the internet over the years and started saving the ones that are still around from all the sites.

Also scanning all the my old issues of Keyframe magazine and NewTechniques.

The plan is to preserve them and put them all together so I don't have to search. Maybe like a giant pdf.

It's a really good idea to save and archive these little nuggets of wisdom and to store them away from your computer. I used to have a load tutorials stored on my PC and lost the lot when my hard drive was fried when the power supply blew. I had backed up the meshes and scenes and textures but it never occurred to me to also back up the tutorials. A lesson was learned because loads of lessons were lost. I back it all up now.

I may have them or at least I did save them to a disc years ago but I not sure if I still have it. But I will look and see .

I did hear some time ago that he was going to open a new website with those old tutorials .... but again that was a rumour.

Thanks! That would be great if you still do.

Yeah I read that on Foundation 3D, but that was from 2009. No new website yet. So I thought I would check here. No new website yet.

Use the internet wayback machine. Enter the old URL for his site/tutorials and they come up.

If you'll notice our own tutorial section, there are a few no longer available on the web that I recovered using the wayback machine website.

I do plan on expanding that with "no longer available" tutorials.

But until I can get my main PC back on the web...

Re: Lost Tutorials

sounds like a good plan..... it would be very sad to see those old tutorials disappear, they always have gems of info
