Executive-produced and penned by veteran small-screen auteur David E. Kelley (Boston Legal, Ally McBeal), TV’s new Wonder Woman will have Palicki playing no less than three “roles”:
• The titular crimefighter, “reinvented” here as an L.A.-based vigilante
• Alter ego No. 1: Diana Themyscira, a mega-billionaire CEO
• Alter ego No. 2: Diana’s “plain Jane” assistant, Diana Prince.
WTH?

Ooh, she's pretty. I've never watched Friday Night Lights, so I'm not familiar with her work. I'll have to tune in when NBC airs Wonder Woman. :D

Word is that they've redesigned the Wonder Woman outfit, and made it a bit less awesome in the process. At least, that's what I've heard.

Re: Wonder Woman has been cast

I saw a concept sketch a while back (though, I'm not sure if it was for the movie or for the comics.) They've made the outfit a little more 21st century and politically correct. I think it's pretty cool. I'll see if I can find the sketch, though I don't know if I'll be able to or not, it was on Yahoo.

Edit: Found it. I guess it wasn't on Yahoo (though, I did find it through Yahoo.) You can only see part of the outfit, but you get the idea:

Wonder Woman is like Superman. they have transcended there target audience, the young readers in the USA. I have
been reading Superman since I was a kid. (haven't we all) :D

Like when I as a young reader never thought that ol Superman red and blue of the US .. just colours of his own Krypton heritage.
but you know his home is Metropolis in the US where the values he represent was forged by the KENTS. Good people

For Wonder Women it a little different
Quote:

Wonder Woman’s original red, white and blue costume, which practically screams America through its stars and stripes covered bodice and belly, was a product of World War II-inspired patriotism, explains Charlie Jane Anders, Managing Editor of io9, Gawker Media’s blog about comics and science fiction
this is and was understandable, but in the last 60 odd years
they have, as I said transcended that. Both are guardians of the world and not just America. it may be their favourite bit though :). but the reader around the world now look at these heroes in a different light.

I don´t think its a bad thing.. both character where not born there but like most they are immigrants. that´s what made America, just like many others its their chosen home.

and you don´t need to carry a flag to be a patriot. I am Irish and I don´t where a flag (unless it St Patrick's day ) :D:D

just my thoughts on the subject.

I like the look of the new suit . but I will mis the legs

That "concept" is her current comic book storyline costume.

Fans have NOT taken to it very well.

Whatever. I don't read comics any more. (never was much of a WW fan anyway) I'll occasionally pick up a graphic novel like Watchmen and re-read it but I stopped reading the monthlies years ago.

That's because DC sets themselves up for failure. If they were like Marvel, they wouldn't cling to the same costumes for decades and people wouldn't be that shocked to see them change. The problem is, the woman has been wearing the same tired outfit for decades and some people are just too anal retentive to let her change into something different.

Re: Wonder Woman has been cast

Oh, but the fans *did* like a costume change she had not too long ago. Rather, her mother had the costume in the past, but it was still Wonder Woman (WWII era).

I like it. But, as I stated previously, I'm not really a Wonder Woman fan. There sure are a lot of haters in the Yahoo comments section, though. Oh well, to each his/her own.

Re: Wonder Woman has been cast

I was thinking when I saw that costume earlier that it reminded me of that newer comic costume. Though, it's kind of a hybrid of the old and new comic costumes. (either way, I can't see a downfall to the skin tight vinyl. :))

gmd3d March 19th, 2011 03:45 AM

Re: Wonder Woman has been cast

I would have liked the Vinyl :) pants darker than that blue ..... to close to Superman's colours

evil_genius_180 March 20th, 2011 09:45 PM

Re: Wonder Woman has been cast

I actually saw on Yahoo where someone commented that they wish the movie uniform was more like the current comic one. So, I guess the comic one isn't completely unpopular (just mostly unpopular.) And it does have darker blues, making it farther from Superman's colors.

Re: Wonder Woman has been cast

highly impractical. She'd be able to fight better in loose-fitting jeans and a hoodie.

not that i care, the only comic characters that remotely interest me are superman and batman ;)

evil_genius_180 March 21st, 2011 10:46 AM

Re: Wonder Woman has been cast

Aside from Batman's body armor or The Flash's skintight body suit, (which is necessary to prevent his clothes from being damaged at high speed) what superhero costume isn't impractical? Most of them run around in what amounts to brightly colored long underwear that really offers absolutely no protection from anything. I like the excerpt from "Behind the Mask" in "Watchmen" where Hollis Mason talks about the impracticality of superhero costumes.

Re: Wonder Woman has been cast

Yeah, that does look better. Also, the pants look more practical. Those other ones looked like they didn't breathe very well, these look easier to move around in.

I grew up watching the original Wonder Woman, guess running around in a bathing suit and boots isnt politically correct...

If they're gonna show it on TV to a PG crowd... I guess it'll have to do!

Lets hope its as financialy succesfull as Smallville to get the Justice League Movie started...

Easy on the eyes, yet the outfit looks.... I don't know... weak...

Its a shame this was cancelled. It prob would have been good if they went with her original costume and not the pants. I know my wife was looking forward to it as much as I was.

Yeah that was my only issue with the animated Wonder Woman movie. The Amazons give her the bathing suit. Why did they even have that?

evil_genius_180 July 17th, 2012 08:46 PM

Re: Wonder Woman has been cast

The bustier and underwear look is typical of female superheroes, especially in DC Comics. They don't seem to think about practicality at all, just if it looks good. I think they're working on fixing some of that these days. The pants and jacket outfit they have for her now is more of a practical outfit, even if it doesn't sit well with fans of the classic look. The Greek armor makes sense, given that their society is supposed to be ancient and that everyone wore armor like that back in the day. Though, the Artemis and Hyppolyta versions are more practical because they have shoulder armor and full plate shin guards.
