Default Sci-Fi sale pending

Vivendi is prepared to sale its entertainment arm, including the Sci-Fi channel. There are several buyers plucking at bits and pieces of Vivendi's sale, most noteable Paramount who are said to be gunning for The Sci-Fi channel and USA. Viacoom has always expressed an interest in building a sci-fi channel of their own, so this could very well be the opportunity they've been waiting for. Who knows what this could mean for Farscape, but it's an interesting development none-the-less.

It is interesting. Perhaps the eventual buyer will put the channel back on a SciFi track. Just so long as they keep the animé on SciFi UK...

The Canadian Sci-Fi channel is also considerably better than the US Sci-Fi channel. I think the major problem with the US Sci-Fi channel is that most original sci-fi programming is already snatched by other cable networks. We have a ridiculously HUGE cable/satellite system, with literally hundreds of channels. So it makes it impossible to put everything in one channel. The Sci-Fi Channel also discovered that it got higher ratings by broadcasting movies than it did with weekly programming. So it has since focused attention on films rather than the bread and butter sci-fi drama. The Sci-Fi channel use to be quite good, with loads of B5, Star Trek, Farscape, Sea Quest etc... rerurns. But ratings increased when they abandoned these shows so they followed the forces of the market. It's a sad thing, but the Sci-Fi channel has become more successful and you can't really fight that.

The Canadian Sci-Fi Channel is called Space: The Imagination Station.

It is created and run by CHUM Limited, which is owned by Moses Znaimer. Moses is a revolutionary when it comes to TV, he believes it should educated, be part of the community and entertain.

He listens to his viewers and makes sure his underlings do as well.

I can't say enough positive things about Space, it is a quality, quality channel that I happily support.

Moses was also the guy behind Much Music, which eventually got carried in the states and regularily beat MTV in the ratings, cause Moses made sure they stillplayed Videos, while MTV was making sitcoms and gameshows and reality TV.

Wooooo! seaQuest!!!

What always confused me, at least with US/UK was that I've seen people talk about them as if they're owned by the same place... but they don't show the same original programming.
