Default "Blasting off on a desparate mission to save Earth...

These models draw from the 1979(?) Filmation adaptation of Flash Gordon.

1) The rocket built by Dr Hans Zarkov carried Flash, Dale Arden and the good Doctor from Earth to Mongo, and served them through many adventures.

2) A trio of "Leaf" fighters partrols the mountain range that defines one border of the forest Kingdom of Arboria. Much smaller than the rocketships of Ming's Sky Armada, the pilots of these fighters depend on speed, agility, and a deadly accurate aim to keep Ming's forces from overruning Arboria.

3)The mighty rockets of Ming's Sky Aramada are the iron fist that maintain his control over the varied continents and kingdoms of Mongo.

4)[Author's note: I was having trouble at first finding the right parts to do justice to Ming's fighters from the series, so I tried to do a model that "felt Ming" instead. This was the result.] A pair of Ming's rocket fighters patrols the Northern Polar Icecap of Mongo near the kingdom of Frigia, relentlessly scouring the ice in search of the elusive Flash Gordon and his allies.

The Filmation series started off as an animated "movie of the week" for NBC. About the time it was due to come out, the live action version with Sam Jones hit the theaters and NBC held off on running it (though they did eventually).

The NBC film was recut with new footage, and entirely new adventures between the beginning and the end, and was aired Saturday mornings in either 79 or 80 IIRC. It was then followed by a second "season" with new characters and a reduced 15 minute episode length. (This second season is widely ignored by the "purists" as it kiddiefied the show greatly.)

The complete series is available on DVD.
