Oh, yeah... "Hyperion" and "The Fall Of Hyperion" are the most perfect books I ever read. The two "Endymion" books are also good.

"The Amtrak Wars" is another great book series.

More good books I read were:

- The "Mars" Trilogy by Kim Stanley Anderson (if you like near future SciFi that books are a must read)
- "Neuromancer" Trilogy (the best Cyberpunks novels ever, but it's not easy to understand the whole story)
- "The Sheep Look Up" by John Brunner (realistic and very horrifying world)
- "The Burning City" by Larry Niven (not the best Fantasy novel I read but the most original one)
- "The Lord Of The Rings" (the best fantasy novel)
- "Elric of Melinboné" (extremely cool fantasy book)

WHAT? No mention of The Martian Chronicals? Or The Illustrated Man? Farenheight 451? Let's give Ray Bradbury some credit here. Stephen King too, although he is more horrer than sci-fi, he did write Firestarter.

I'm glad someone here mentioned Koontz and Bova. Mr. Murder, Dragon Tears, and Strangers should be required reading as examples of how to tell a story and portray characters' personalities. Bova's entire Orion series is also increadibly inventive. There was another he did I really liked but I can't remember the name of it.

Ah, yes! Farenheit 451 is a wonderful work.

Here I am pissing and moaning over writers being forgotten and I neglect to mention Douglas Adams, writer of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. I just got done reading the whole five-book trilogy too.

My only problem with Bova is he tends to be a bit 'dry' in his main characters personality's. Other then that he's a visionary when it comes to up and coming social/political/science problems

By Bova's "planetary" series I meant: MoonBase, MoonWar, Mars and Jupiter. They all take place within the same universe, but each book is set many years apart from the other.

Now..... for the rest of the story....

4. Tied Raymond E. Feist "The Rift-War" Saga that really turned me on to fantasy & W. Micheal Gear "The Artifact" and "The Forbidden Boarders Trilogy"
3. Tied Gregory Benford, "Cosm" & "Against Infinity" and David Brin the "Up Lift" series is great!
2. Tied Ray Bradbury "451" & "The Martian Chronicles" and Robert Heinlein "Silicon Dagger", "Stranger in a Strangeland"

1. Issac Asimov, the great master of Pycho-History. ALL 14 "Foundation" books.

Clearly I prefer 'olde-fashioned' SF. But I never turn down a 'good-read'.

If I could ever afford it, I'd love to buy the movie rights for those top two and make them into miniseries. They are, beyond all others, the best novels I have ever read.
