Default Cover Art - StarBlazer - UK Comic

No not the animated cartoon, This is a comic series that was published in the UK from 1979 to around the early 1990s.
I use to collect these as there stories and art work (depending on the artist at the time) where very good and unique.

I have around 60 of these in my possession and have become collectible as they are now very rare and hard to find.

But I would like to share some of the covers that have, they still grab my attention, once I am finished my present project I
plan on doing a cover or two as a modelling break.

There are 280 odd covers and they are in 4 gallery´s if you like to look them over.
Gallery 1.

It may inspire some of you too.

I know they inspired me

I like the cover art, it reminds me of some of the old book covers from then and earlier. In fact, much of it has a retro '30s-'50s look to it. I don't think I've ever heard of the series, though. (they might not have sold much in the US)

I think it really only sold in the England Scotland and Ireland. it ran for about 289 issues and finished in the 1990s.

I have all the covers which I am loading to flickr

I don´t know if Commando comic sold in the US,,,, but the covers where always fantastic action image.
something I want to try soon, but with a sci-fi approach. or even a trek approach.

I don't really know what did and didn't sell in the US. I mostly paid attention to super hero, Star Wars and Star Trek comics. I also have some Judge Dredd comics, but those are reprints that were sold in the US. Sometimes, one can find stuff from overseas at comic shops or secondhand book stores, but I don't know about stuff that's brand new.

Yeah, I mostly got comics from the convenience store across the street from my parents' house when I could afford them. Needless to say, it was mostly DC and Marvel over there, with a peppering of Archie and Image and some of the other smaller comic companies. No European comics, though. I mostly bought Batman, Superman and The Flash back then.

My comics from the 70's would have been a fairly eclectic group. I mostly bought UK publications as my local newsagent didn't stock DC or Marvel titles.
I read, Victor, Hotspur, Battle, Action (Until it was banned. The pasty faced version that was resurrected was very poor.) 200AD, Starlord and a huge number of Commando books. (I also collected a weekly magazine called Speed and Power which I wish I still had as it had the most amazing pictures of military aircraft and vehicles.)

I remember them. I think I still have a Victor from 1978 somewhere.

Commando books where great,, the cover art on many was stunning.
Speed and power I saw very little of, the pictures of aircraft and other I do remember from a few publications.

what I also liked where the true stories they added to the fictional stuff, some of it got me through school. lol

The control pod on the fin looks so bizarre, yet plausible.

Awesome was just checking all the pics out in your photobucket account. Nice. Love that era of scifi art. Miss that style.

By the way saw the preview for Tin Tin in the theater and it looks awesome.

I always liked these kinds of sci fi art covers, cgi sometimes does not cut it for that raw look, if you know what I mean.

Starblazer! That's what it was called. I used to have a few of those about the place, but they got lost somewhere while moving house. I always thought they were a science fiction version of the Commando comics. They may still be knocking around my Dad's place somewhere, if I were to go through absolutely everything, but that's a bit unlikely. He probably threw them out.

The only thing I can clearly remember was a weapons specialist who modified his laser pistols to be able to shoot around corners. I must have read that about 22 years ago.

So they made it at least(!) as far as the South Island of New Zealand, but I suspect that it was probably a special order by a book shop, as I never came across them anywhere else locally.

They are very rare books now and they where published by the same DC Thompson that still publish the Commando comics......
I have over 60 of them, I take them out from time to time.

But the cover art is always great, so of the best...... exp in Commando
