Star Wars inspiration
For the few of you who may not know, there is a site devoted to the 'other' kind of SCI-FI 3D modeling - scale models. The site, Starshipmodeler, has topics on all kinds of space and sci-fi models done by folks who dabble around with bits of plastic and paper like we do with nurbs and polys. In advance of the new Star Wars film, they have been running a contest on a SW themed build. While there are always some great inspiration items there (for us virtual modelers), this contest has a few cool ideas waiting to be turned into 3D models.
Check these out:
Blockade Runner
Nebulon Ranger
Slave III

Interesting site - I think I actually prefer most of the scratch-built models to the actual kits.

Re: Star Wars inspiration
There's a lot of stuff out there made by miniature-makers. I've always found his concept art very helpful: http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com. And have you seen this site? A chance to hold your meshes in your hands: http://www.shapeways.com
