Question time:

The next scene is going to be a quick cutaway to Rimward Station.

Spoiler
Does anyone know exactly why Drakus seemed so intent on destroying the Fitzgerald rather than letting it return to Federation space? They obviously pose a more serious threat of some kind...

After which, it's back to the Fitzgerald. The nod that Prentice and Reyf share at the end of 26B is an indicator of a renewed respect. The question is, where do we go now?

Spoiler
Some of the scenes I've got in mind coming up:
  • Falwell studying their files on Borg nanoprobes, and Prentice asking why.
  • Reyf telling them everything (part 1: observation lounge). The face of their enemy and his true nature and identity revealed.
  • Reyf telling them everything (part 2: cargo bay six). Reyf takes them down to show them what's there, and then they meet Holo-Garr.
  • Evil Garr visiting Prentice. (Quarters? Or visiting the holosimulation that cracked the case last time to try and see what Reyf saw?). Either way I'm absolutely itching to do this scene...it's already partially written, and the banter between Garr and Prentice is going to be good.
  • Drakus leaving Rimward Station to inspect his attack fleet. We'll get a glimpse of his command ship here.

The completed scene looks great. I'm also looking forward to seeing those other scenes you have planned.

It's amazing how insubordinate XOs can be.

Nice work, they both look great. Though, is the flyby at the end of the "Drakus" scene going to be immediately followed by the flyby and captain's log in the "Repairs" scene? If it is, that's kind of redundant. Granted, the flybys look good but that's a lot of flyby back-to-back.

I don't know why I tacked that on to the end of Scene 27, but the "captain's log" flyby that starts Scene 28 will replace the silent one that ends Scene 27.

The music cue at the end coupled with what Ronston says is our third hint that there's some romantic history or involvement between her and Prentice.

Also, as an interesting bit of info for those that are interested in these things, the music track at the end of Scene 28 is one of Christopher L. Stone's pieces originally composed for Disney's Talespin back in the day. This particular excerpt is from track 2, "Romantic Theme."

I remember Talespin. I used to watch that back in the day. (I was a kid when that was on)

I kinda had the feeling that was the case with the flyby. I've also been noticing the subtle hints that "something" happened or was happening between those two.

@evil_genius: I was a kid back in the Talespin days myself Have the whole series! (Spin it, let's begin it, bear and grin it when you're in it; you can win it in a minute, when you spin it, spin it, spin it!)

Looking ahead at Scene 29. This is going to be a good scene--Evil Garr is going to pay a holographic visit to Captain Prentice the way he did to Reyf early on.

This is going to be an opportunity for, among other things, some terrific banter between the two, but also to drop some hints and answer some questions. I'd appreciate some input on what you might expect from a conversation between these two characters. Remember, Garr and Prentice don't know each other the way they each know Reyf, so the discussion is naturally going to be far less personal in nature.

Could use some guidance!

Something I was considering about this scene:

Spoiler
Having this not actually be Evil Garr at all, but a ruse by Reyf that involves Holo Garr, who we'll meet later. The idea is to use the same ruse on Garr as he used on the Romulans--present an unsuspecting Prentice with a holosimulation of Evil Garr, who (proudly) admits his involvement in the destruction of Romulus, as a means to an end. Reyf is secretly recording the conversation, and when the Fitzgerald finally meets up with the Romulan armada, transmits the recording to them.

The existing concept is the same, except that instead of a fake Holo Garr, this really is Evil Garr. Thoughts?

That sounds like a plan but even if it is the real Garr, might the Romulans still suspect that it's a hologram?

That's a real possibility...

But in the meantime, take a look at the preliminary writeup for Scene 29 and see what you think. I'm not happy with this version (the dialogue seems hollow and doesn't feel like it flows well), so if anyone's got ideas for how to improve on this, let's hear it.

Just letting everyone know, there's a new full-length clip up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNa-BA995ds. This one sports among other things an improved "previously on" sequence (all the stuff from Specter has been re-rendered at ultra high resolution).

But don't get too comfortable with this one, it's coming down later today in favor of another one, with a new captain's log at the end and, at long last, a version of the Vaxis in Scene 9 that's visibly damaged.

Still working on Scene 29.

Ooh, creepy.

Seriously, looking good. One question, though. Why does Prentice have a model for the alternate reality Enterprise in his cabin? (yes, I saw Galactica too but that doesn't cause any in-universe issues like the alternate E does.) Since that ship is from an alternate reality, it shouldn't exist in the "prime" Trek universe.

@evil_genius: it was in Chellik's office in Specter as well Last time it was implied to be an afterthought, a gold-plated proof-of-concept model that no one ever made anything of. This time, it's mostly there as a subtle jab at Star Trek XI (notice Garr's line there is "I have to know my enemy").

I guess you could say it's there for the same reason Riker had a pewter model of the 1701-A in his TNG quarters, with warp engines that were turned the wrong way: because we can.

Yeah, I figured that "concept that was never made" was going to be the explanation, I just thought I'd ask. As for the Constitution-class with the nacelles turned 90 degrees, you can easily just say that's a class variant. But, as many people have whined about since it was revealed, there's nothing like the JJverse Enterprise anywhere in Starfleet in the "prime" universe. (AKA, the real Trek universe)

@evil_genius: remember that Retribution so far has taken place in an "alternate" timeline (the same as the Prime one but with some subtle differences). At the end of the movie the Prime timeline will be restored. At that point, we'll get another glimpse in Prentice's quarters, at which point this gold Abrams NCC-1701 will change to the TOS-style NCC-1701.

The question now is, where to from here? Obviously Reyf is going to tell all very soon, the question is how to get there from here.

@Taranis: I think you'll really like the latest clip, it went through quite a bit of preproductive development (not to mention corny ideas over at SFM). Braiyon Garr is particularly ominous here, and as has been said, there's what I think is a nice little plot twist at the end.

Something has been bugging me that might be a revelation of sorts. Anybody who doesn't want to read what might or might not be a startling revelation, don't read this:

Spoiler
I'm beginning to wonder if Garr is the real villain in all of this or if it's Reyf.

I'm kind of stuck on the next scene. I've got it written, but no matter how many rewrites I go through, I still can't get it to such a point that I'm happy with it. Have a look at the writeup, and see what you think. Let me know if you have any suggestions!
