Chelle Enaid here. I've never tried 3D artwork before, although I've done some 2D cartooning, so I'm a complete novice. I'm here to get some advice and see what others are capable of while I play around with my own stuff. I am currently using Daz because it's free (best reason ever) and seems pretty "new person" friendly. I'm looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hello Chelle_Enaid,

If you have and DAZ related questions I can probably help you out.
I use Carrara Pro 6 a lot and I also have D|S.
And yes, for being free it's one of the best programs out there IMO.

Feel free to ask away.

Thanks! I'm so new on it, I'm not even really sure what to ask right now. I'm mostly just playing around getting a feel for the interface, etc. With work and other commitments, I'm not exactly moving fast either!

We all move at our own pace.

D|S has some real good tools for jumping in and getting your feet wet.
Do you have any of the free starter packs yet?
DAZ3D has lot of good free starter items availble on their site.
If you haven't already, I'd suggest you check it out - set up and account and then you'll receive a free mesh every month. Some are 'ok' and others are flat out awesome.

The most important thing though (IMO) is to have fun.
Find your imagination and let it rip!

Yes, I have the V3 and M4 starter kits. I'm playing around with M4 now, just getting a feel for how to maneuver the camera angles, add elements, change backgrounds, etc. I do some roll playing on a Star Wars board, so I'm playing with an avatar to begin with, then can get more into animations and such later as I get more familiar.

There are a lot of good Star Wars figures and morphs available for D|S.
If you check www.sharecg.com they have a couple of Leia face morphs and a Han Solo one. The Star Wars characters available on this site will also work in your D|S provided you have the P4 people they're built upon.

Hi everyone. Just a little intro. My name is Psyco, real name withheld because of the tv show Only fools and horses. Boy do i get stick over that. And no my brother is not Delboy.

I am 43 yrs old and training to be a Primary schol teacher here in the UK. I am still new to 3D modelling and currently use Blender for models and daz studio and Bryce 6 for other work. I use Bryce for my art work. I found a new home during a visit to STG to look for models. It was a strange quirk of ate that brought me here to a post for more software that is free. Now that poster deserves a big thanks. I am still very new to modelling and am having a hard time with Uv Mapping and texturing. No doubt I will get it soon enough.

I love sharing even if it is only something simple like a piece of art as a wallpaper I can even chuck in some basic textures which I create using Paintshop pro 8. I am a firm believer that to recieve a gift of free software or models etc one should at least offer up anything that they can do like wise.

I thank you for allowing me to become a member of your community and to finally find a place where there are like minded people.

Current software used.

Blender 2.46/ Daz studio/bryce 6/poser 4/paintshop pro and the gimp. soon Truespace7 thanks to this forum.

I hope I can avail you of some help and If i can offer any ideas i will gladly.

Hi all thanks for the welcome.
For those of you who haven't used blender you must try it. I found it very easy to owrk with. Although i am still new to modelling by searching for the hudreds of tutorials out there i got a few easy actions using the cntrl key to help moderate my actions. the interface is easy to understand. i will have to go to my bt vault to get some models for you to look at but if you are a member of the Daz community you can link from the freeepozitory where I have a few posts under this name. I am still learning texturing so at the moment they are un textured. I find using Blender quite easy but still have a lot to learn as with any new hobby. It does take time to get used to but it is worth it in the end. the simple meshes and nurbs are quite easy to use and with a little playing around you can get quite detailed models. May be in a year or so I will produce work that will be good enough for the talented people here but until then i will simply plod along trying to learn new things.

Oh Python scripts go right over my head. I thought a python was a snake. LOL

I would like to see some kind of icons for the programs we use under our user names I have seen other site doing it.. Sometimes I forget even when I have been told by members what they use

Hi chelle, if you want to get in to 3D art then you can't go wrong with bryce 5.5 from daz. I think you can still find it there if not check for it on cnet. I'll see if i can find it. bryce is great for working with 3d models and has some great terrains and skys to work with. there is also a useful materials lab and light lab to use for texturing untextured models and an excellent skylab. have a look in the freepozitory section at the daz forum you will find some helpful free stuff links and you may find the 5.5 link there also. Oh bryce 5 is free also. I still have the installer somewhere I upgraded to bryce 6 but the version 5 is definitely still around as the upgrade is still quite new. If you want help i can certainly help there as a regular bryce user.

Hello,
My name is Bill, I'm sort of new, when I got here it said I hadn't logged in since 2005. I'm primarily a Lightwave and Vue user with some Poser on the side and PSP for texturing. Strictly a hobbyist, wish I had more time to spend on it. I received an email to vote on the cargo contest and liked what I saw when I got here.

I'm 51, live in Michigan, USA and work as a program manager to support my hobbies, which other than 3d include managing a couple web sites for friends, gaming on the 360 and astronomy when I can't sleep.

Hopefully you'll let me stay and I look forward to meeting you!

Welcome to the gladiators. For a 3D model programme that is free and supported by a foundation you could try Blender. I recomend it as a user.

I have posted a helpful tutorial for creating textures in blender in the Helpzone. I recomment version 2.47 and not 2.48 because it has a bug with externally created textures that still needs to be resolved. Also you may be interested in Bryce as a 3d image creation tool. Links are available here in the links area posted by Teranis.

welcome and enjoy your stay. You are among friends
