Modular Command Center
Haven't posted anything in a while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy... busy making a mess.
Nearly finished with a project that I've named a "modular command center". It's supposed to be the kind of thing where all these techies are huddled around a bunch of officers dealing with some kind of crisis of sorts. Any way... here are some of the parts...
It's slowly coming together.
Please ignore the nekkid figures imported into LightWave. I just throw them in to establish relative scale for the environment. I didn't model any of those figures.
Cheers! — Möe

Re: Modular Command Center
I also had to throw in a holographic projector and some amphitheater style seating.
And then it became inevitable that I had to create something like the "boss booth", where the person in charge can get a commanding view of the entire workspace. As usual... I think I got a wee bit carried away.
I'm trying to keep my polygon count low without sacrificing detail... and hopefully the missing details can get added in with good textures.
Cheers! — Möe

Kai is right. These are the Michael3 and Victoria3 figures from DAZ 3D. They were pre-posed and exported out of DAZ|Studio in LWO format.

Re: Modular Command Center
You always do such cool work and this is no exception.
My only gripe is that the pics are too small. (we need more details)

If you're just going to use them as dummies in your renders (like I do), may I suggest that you download DAZ|Studio... because it's free! I haven't checked recently, but when I downloaded these M3/V3 figures they were free as well.
Probably because there's now a V4 figure available.

Thank you very much, sir. High praise coming from you.
Here's a larger WIP image for your critical review.

Re: Modular Command Center
Looks pretty solid! I don't care a lot for that amphitheatre style seating though, it looks a bit big for sucha small projection.
A second nitpick is the height of the whole thing: that's a lot of unused space, perhaps you can put a second floor on it?
Your detailing is quite impresive however

Thanks very much for your feedback and critical input. The size of the amphitheater seating is scaled based on a capacity of approximately 80 pax and at that given distance visual acuity is still decent. I might consider making the projection slightly bigger though.
I have no problem wasting ceiling height here... as there is a lot to be said about placing cameras in a cavernous space with lots of opportunities for shadows. It's virtual real estate anyway... and I'm not aware of any building codes that restrict double-height space in the 3D world. While the initial cost and effectivity of running the HVAC system in this volume of space might be high, the heat load generated from all the equipment might better dissipate in that cavity above.
I'm not going to put a second floor, but I am toying with the thought of putting some catwalks around the space.
Cheers! — Möe

Re: Modular Command Center
I definitely wouldn't worry about ceiling height. A lot of rooms in Fci-Fi (especially command rooms) have really high ceilings where they could add a second level but they don't. I guess they figure it makes that room that much more impressive if you can show the whole room without much of the ceiling showing.

Re: Modular Command Center
Just an update to the holo board.
I've completed the design on the unit type symbols and have created simple icons for use on the map to simulate troops and troop movements. I didn't want to copy existing military symbols, but had to go and invent my own.

Re: Modular Command Center
Finally got a friend to texture the entire thing (and it's now available commercially)! I've also created a whole bunch of bonus textures for monitors and even more maps to increase the versatility of this set.
The military unit icons have also attracted the attention of a friend that does a bit of work around other military types, so he's rationalizing them and creating a field manual of sorts with a brief treatise on "Dystopian Military Doctrine". If anyone is interested, I can post a link once it's up.
Cheers! — Möe
