Default Forrest Ackerman Dies.

News report from 4 Hrs ago.

Forrest Ackerman the man who coined the phrase SCIFI has dies at the ripe old age of 92.

Ackerman died of heart failure on Thursday at his home in Los Angeles, said Kevin Burns, president of Prometheus Entertainment and a trustee of his estate.

He had no surviving family members.

Ackerman was the inspiration for author Ray Bradbury writer of " the martian Chronicals" and George Lucas " Star Wars."

He was concidered by many as the Pied Piper of the genre. His home was thrown open to the public so that they could view his vast collection of Scifi books and memorabelia.

R.I.P Forrest Ackerman.

Wow, that's too bad. I didn't realize he played such a huge part in development of the genre (especially in horror and fantasy). May he rest in peace. (Is that the same Kevin Burns who directed and produced the Baseball and Civil War films for public television?)

Very few have. But not for him then Start trek etc would not be with us and all things SCIFI. I think that he was the sort of guy that played in the background but was still revered by the people in the business. His innovative thoughts brought us special effects and pyro's but he still wasn't recognised fully by the masses.

All too often the person behind the genre or movement is lost in the wake of their creation. Such was the way it was for Ackerman. Similar situation happened to the early pioneers of 'Rock & Roll'.

It is a sad thing that he's died but at the same time - perhaps he's now living in a reality that he could have only dreamed of while he was still here.

Here's a link to a bunch of interview footage with him over at YouTube.

What really kills me is that the Ackermansion was just down the main drag from my grandparents house where I usually spent many of my boyhood summers. If I had only known then...!

ya know, His body may have died. But his spirit will live on forever in every scifi film and tv show both past present and future. As for the guy living so close to relatives. That is so cool. Mr Scifi just down the street. Man wish I could say that.

Actually, I heard they transplanted his head onto the body of a deep sea space-gorilla and he's being kept alive by some large Tesla Coils and computers with big clicking knobs and lots of blinking lights.
