Default Contest: Ships of the Line Submissions

I can't vouch or accept entries, but I can certainly encourage some healthy competition. The idea here is simple. Make a Render of (Kick-Ass) Awesomeness of any Starship seen on Star Trek - fan design or canon is acceptable.

Doug Drexler asked me to be on the lookout for artists and/or artwork that could be submitted for the next Ships of the Line Calender. You can check out his blog to see what kind of entries we're talking about - I can show Doug the thread but I can't guarantee anything beyond that.
RULES: Must be awesome, must "feel" photo-realistic.
Post in at least 1024x768, start your own gallery thread but link it here.

Good luck to you all, and may the Force be with you!

I don't see anything there about type of ships. All I saw was him posting about someone having done the ring ship.

Canon or just any Trek design? Animated series ok? etc etc.

If you look hard enough you can find other entries, in the archives. You can also take a peek at the last SotL on Amazon. Any design is ok, as long as it looks good. I don't think he's accepting animated-style's tho.

No idea. If it doesn't make this years calender maybe it will get on next years. I"ll ask him to drop by the board, and i"ll see if i can get some other stuff going as well.

Darryl, can you make a sub-forum labeled "Gallery", if we don't have it already?

Cool ....... as I said I have an idea , but it all has to be built as I see it... I don´t want to use anyone else work in as much as possible..

apart from some poser forms but they will be vague at most.. I am struggling with aspects of the building process now.

I don´t want to say more about it. publicly anyway.

I have many design aspects to finish first ...... but the rendering will test me .. I have spent the last few years neglecting that aspect of Lightwave and art... But It would be great to be apart of Star Trek in that public form.

Like Degs Enterprise picture that is hosted on Doug site..

But we must encourage our members to get involved too .....

I also just thought that if anyone wants to submit anything to the contest. they would need to keep these images out of the general
public eye... via forum or other wise as they will be published etc.

so it would be better for now not to show what your doing and get in touch with Doug Drexler.

but perhaps you could learn exactly Jedman67 what restrictions if any there are .

We might here be able to help anyone who wants to work on a few ideas or need help.... I will talk with Warrior asap to see if we can do something if there is enough interest ....

apart from me .- is there anyone else that would like to do this ..

I will keep out of that side as I am attempting this myself .. perhaps
one of the moderators could directed it as needs be..

But I am only speculating here and throwing out ideas for us to consider..

and those not accepted could submit to a contest here at a later date......

I wasn't talking animated series style. Just the ships from the animated series. If you look in the Gallery, you'll see I have a couple of ships from TAS.

As for a new forum, doesn't make sense. The thread you started here should be fine, or start another thread for the art and leave this one for discussion. the Contest area of the forums can be set to viewable/postable for members only, which is what it'd need to be for people to post for this anyways. In fact, use the Challenge Arena forum

I was thinking of that...we have the gallery at the top toolbar .. its
only creating to many separate locations for the same thing. and the
forums will be spreed around to much in my thinking.

can the contest area be set to specific member only that are participating in submitting to the. "Ships of the Line" as I am..

I would like to show what I am doing but to a limited few at the beginning so I can get advise and suggestions myself from members --especially when it comes to lighting and surface settings ... a weak point in my work that I know well.

But its a fun idea .. that I was thinking about before Jedman67 posted this thread ..

It's set for regular members to view/post, ie the 5 post rule. Same settings as the Mesh Release forum.

So some unregistered visitor or newbie cannot come in and view it without having posted to the forums already (I did set Doug's permissions though so he can see that forum without the restrictions).

If you do an Invite only, then you're not going to have too big of a turn-out, which would limit what Doug would get to see from various members.

No real restrictions. I was thinking a person could post his/her own gallery thread for the artwork, and linkback here. Doug mentioned that his profile was 'awaiting moderation' as of this morning, so hopefully he can stop by and let us know. Also, please switch it to 'anyone can view' - the more people you get looking at the site, the better, IMO.
Darryl, you can use any design ship you want. it just needs to be an "awesome" picture at the end of the day postwork is perfectly acceptable as well

The rest of the forums ARE visible

And thanks for the clarification on ships.

As for Doug, I believe Taranis already approved him.

I meant please switch THIS thread to "anyone can view" I don't think 'security' is a necessity. This isn't really an official contest anyway.

This is the restriction i meant . But i'd also suggest consolidating all the posts in this thread, since i don't want people to be scared away by a contest with 2 pages of posts already, lol

The CONTEST forum has the restrictions. This THREAD is in General Discussions!

And consolidate WHAT posts? All the posts on this subject are in this thread.
