Windows 7 is working remarkebly well. If there's Vista drivers for your hardware it will probably run on 7 as well. All the software I'm using runs on 7 (CS4, SketchUp, Kerkythea), so I'm really happy with it. Widescreen users will love the way you can automatically resize windows to the left or right of the screen, in essence you're able to work with documents as if you're using two screens

Well if you're going for a new PC I'd suggest you go for an i7 tripple channel system with at least 6GB of ram (and a W7 64-bit install). That means three slices of 2GB, pr if you can get your hands on it, a second set of 3 x 2GB to top out at 12GB. I want to set up such a system myself but I just don't have the money for it; yet

Some reviews have claimed that going from XP to 7 is a bit of a chore.

Upgrading has always been some thing of a problem, with settings not migrating correctly. I was thought that a fresh install is always the best: you'll get rid of stuff that made your life unpleasant (like faulty virusscanners and almost undetectable malware) in the process, leaving you with a very fast computer to enjoy ^_^

Vista was complete crud. I upgraded to 7 on my Alienware Laptop and have had no problems. The system even seems to respond faster and smoother.

I do like that programs can be ran in an older Windows mode, if needed.

I usually dump windoze and do a fresh install about every six months to clean out all the crap. My machine stays cleaner and runs better that way. It doesnt seem to matter what kind of "cleaning" software I run, nothing runs like a fresh install.
