I started work on a new Daedalus-class design recently. It's far from finished but this is the direction in which I am going. The sphere and warp pylons are both very much temporary placeholders so that I would have something to show there.
A few things to note so that there is no confusion and there aren't questions about this later:
1: First and foremost; this has
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the Star Trek movie by J.J. Abrams or the Enterprise in that movie. I realize there are similarities and I am willing to concede that certain parts were inspired by the image of that ship but that's as far as it goes.
2: I'm completely throwing out the Trek rule book on ship building here. There will be all the normal components but I'm hoping that they don't have too much in common with what's been done before. I'm not worried about "canon" or "noncanon," I'm just adding stuff that makes sense or looks good to me.
3: This has nothing to do with any project I or anybody else has done in the past. I'm just building a ship here, nothing more.
4: I don't consider this a "redesign," "reimagining," "reboot" or any such nonsense. The Daedalus-class was mentioned in "Power Play" (TNG) and there was a desktop model that Greg Jein built for Sisko's office on DS9 based off of Matt Jefferies' original Enterprise designs that is
unofficially referred to as the Daedalus-class. While my design is obviously based off of that, Greg Jein's ship is not canon and there's no on-screen proof to confirm that it is really a Daedalus-class ship. So, there really is no canon design for this class.
Anywho, on to the model:
As I said, I'm still very much in the early stages here but this is basically the direction I'll be going with this.
