Sweet. I was wondering how Reyf's power modifications were going to play into the plot. About how long does it take you to put together a clip of that length?

@evil_genius: it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the complexity. This scene went fairly quickly because it's two characters just talking, nothing complicated like walking or motion cameras except in a few places. A scene like this that involved walking or more elaborate camera moves, or effects like the warp core pulsing, would tend towards the "couple of days" end. You'll notice the warp core was never actually shown here--I'm trying to "direct around" having to show certain things when I can so as to speed production.

Thanks for that, I was wondering. It makes sense to try to workaround things that will slow down renders.

so when you have your crew walking, you have to create the movements from scratch each time..... there is no kind of walk motion save that can be used time and time again......

(I quickly add I don´t animate either.)

@Taranis: Poser does have walk presets, and I've created a few of my own as well, and it greatly speeds the animation process. I shudder to think, if I had to animate everyone walking top to bottom each time, neither Specter nor Retribution would ever have been made

Next one's up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_-4foYcdeg

This is a great example of how different scenes require different production times. This scene is only forty seconds long but it took several days for me to make, largely because I was having to make some updates to the main corridor set and fix the lighting.

Will be interesting now to see what theories begin to fly about the contents of the cargo bay Reyf enters...

Ooh, the plot thickens. It will be interesting to see what's in the bay. I'm not usually one for guessing, so I'll just wait and see.

Interesting side note: I watched that on my 32-inch HDTV. I'm rendering on my main computer, so I'm on the backup that I have hooked up to the TV. That clip looks really cool on the bigger screen.

I watched a little bit of the 1st episode earlier. I like the way that Dawnstar class starship looked. I'm going to try watching the rest of it this weekend.

@tgep: you must be watching Specter instead of Retribution. No Dawnstar-class ships have been featured in Retribution...yet.

(By the way, guys, on the subject of non-canon starships, you may have noticed Mark Kingsworth's Insignia got a good cameo early on, we're going to be seeing a lot more of it before we're through.)

@Taranis: it only showed up very briefly during the spacedock flythrough sequence, in the same place as the Excelsior in Star Trek IV-VI. Have a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W9q6...ailpage#t=537s

It's already advanced to the proper time.

@Taranis: as much as I'd love to claim credit, Mimic Pro (my lip synch utility) does those by itself. Makes my life MUCH easier

Meantime, next piece is up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO8OqM0pkXc

This one's good, easily one of my favorites thus far.

@evil_genius: just curious, but did you notice the sound the Romulan fighter made as it flew past?

You mean the Star Wars sound effect? Yes, I noticed that. Was that a TIE Fighter sound?
